Our Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course for beginners

Kathryn Ellis

You may have noticed we now offer a Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course for complete beginners who would like to become massage therapists.

However, we realise that the Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course is an investment of your time and money. And we also know that there are other similar courses out there too.

So we created this blog post to help you understand everything you need to know before buying a beginners massage course.

We want you to make the right choice. So this article is an unbiased look at our Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course to make sure it’s the right fit for you.

What is our Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course?

Our Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course is a fully-accredited professional course that equips you to set yourself up as a professional massage therapist. We’ll make sure you have all the necessary skills to have a successful career as a therapist.

Thai yoga massage is a very different form of bodywork. It takes time and a lot of practice to learn the many different moves and approaches that are required to give a good Thai yoga massage.

The structure of this massage course is designed to nurture and develop students into becoming excellent practitioners. The whole routine is split into sections that can be learnt and developed through home practice - an integral part of the course.

In addition to classroom sessions, students will receive an in-depth manual with colour photos as well as life-time access to the full video-training course.

Why we created our Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course

We offer a number of CPD (continuing professional development) courses for massage therapists who have to be qualified at level 3 or above. However, we were getting lots of interest from people who didn’t have any massage qualifications and were interested in training with us.

So we developed a fully accredited, industry-recognised, level 3 course that is suitable for all.

So often, a lot of therapists don’t learn how to properly use their own body positioning in their practice and end up suffering from exhaustion or pain from over-use of thumbs and shoulders.

So we wanted to provide a massage training course that focused on good technique from the very beginning - to avoid developing bad habits.

What is included in our Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course

It is a 250-hour intensive Level 3 Diploma course that runs over nine days in total, including an assessment day. In all, it runs over 4 months, after which you’ll be able to start working as a therapist - and charging for your massages.

This is the perfect course for complete beginners and includes seven days of hands-on massage training. For those who do not have an existing Anatomy & Physiology qualification, this can be completed online at the same time (included within the price of our full course).

You’ll learn:

  • How to give a range of authentic Thai Yoga massage treatments to suit each individual client, from a 60 minutes “short” treatment to a 90 minutes “regular” treatment up to a 2 hours “full” treatment.
  • To confidently work with your clients in the full-range of positions: in Prone, Supine, Side-lying and Seated positions.
  • How to develop a loyal client base by providing a highly sought-after treatment that is still relatively unknown in the massage world.
  • How to help clients with niggling physical issues, particularly those with shoulder and lower back problems.
  • How to set yourself up as a therapist and to create a successful business as a sole-trader.
  • The best equipment to use
  • Good client-care and how to communicate with your clients
  • How to follow-up after a treatment and to ensure your clients return again and again
  • Self-care - how to look after yourself as a therapist and to ensure you can have a long-lasting career

Why study Thai Yoga Massage at Central School of Massage?

  • We have a low student to teacher ratio: sometimes you can get lost or overlooked in a class and it can often seem like the teacher doesn’t have time to give you enough attention. Our classes have a maximum of six students for each intake. You will not get overlooked! Our small numbers mean we can give everyone the attention they need.
  • Expert instruction: the teachers at Central School of Massage are also currently practising therapists. This is not book-learning! We bring real-world learning into our classroom and show you how to work in a way that will truly help you with your future clients.
  • High quality equipment: you’ll get to work on and use the same equipment we use as therapists. There’s no need to bring your mat/futon or cushions/blankets etc. We provide everything you’ll need for learning in the classroom.
  • Recognised qualification: Our course is fully accredited by FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists), one of the leading organisations for monitoring and awarding professional qualifications in the therapy world. In addition, the course is also accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals.

How much does the Thai Yoga Massage Diploma course cost?

Our course costs £1,495 which includes all tuition on the training days, examination fees for the final assessment and personal one-to-one feedback. You are also required to take an online level 3 Anatomy and Physiology course which is included within the price.

Why is the cost £1,495?

We wanted to offer a course that’s affordable for you. Our intention is to get you up and running as a therapist and to be able to earn your money back within a few months.

There are cheaper courses available; however, many of them are not full, professional qualifications (level 3 or equivalent) and only allow you to work on friends and family.

Is there a refund policy?

We ask that you give us a non-refundable deposit to guarantee your place. As our numbers are so small, we are not able to give refunds. Your place on the course is transferable however, so if you can find someone to take your place, we’re happy for them to step in.

Once we’ve started the course, we’re not able to offer a refund for your fees as you are given all the course material upfront. If you’re unable to complete the course (due to illness or sudden bereavement for example), we can discuss your options with you which might mean deferring to a future course.

Who is this course for?

This course is not for everyone and we only want you to buy it if it’s right for you.

This is for you if:

      1. You’re passionate about helping others
      2. You have a keen interest in health and well-being
      3. You’re looking to find a new career and would like to work for yourself
      4. You want to find balance in your work/home life
      5. You want to be in control of your own time and not be a wage-slave

Who is this not for?

This course is not for you if you want a get-rich-quick and are only interested in making money. If you’re not a “people-person” and don’t enjoy working with others, then this is not the course or career path for you.

Be prepared to work hard and spend time learning and practising your new skills. You will have a lot of fun along the way, but if you’re not willing to put the time into the practice, then this won’t work for you.

How long will it take to be able to work as a qualified therapist?

The course will take four months from beginning to end. You will need to complete all the case-studies and successfully pass the exams and complete the Anatomy course before fully qualifying. Then you can set yourself up in business as a massage therapist, and charge for your treatments.

What will I need to get started?

You won’t need anything to get started. However, you will have to spend a small amount of money on buying equipment to make it comfortable for you and your future clients once you're in business. We will discuss this in full on the first day of training.

Who is your teacher?

The course is run by Kathryn Ellis who has been running massage courses since 2009. A full-time massage therapist since 2007, Kathryn is highly sought-after for her treatments as well as her courses.

She set up the Central School of Massage in 2009 and has trained many hundreds of therapists, ranging in ability and experience from absolute beginners through to therapists with 20+ years' experience.

Kathryn was an official speaker at the 2019 Holistic Health Fair, and runs CPD (continuing professional development) massage courses for the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).

Where does the course take place?

All our courses take place in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, which is about 10 miles from Coventry, Rugby and Stratford-upon-Avon. We have a purpose-built yoga and massage studio, a large log cabin in the garden. With underfloor heating and roof-lights, the room is flooded with light whilst being cosy and warm.

What do previous students say about this course?

Thank you so much for teaching me this fabulous modality, I know that everyone will find this amazing. I think you have an awesome teaching style and it really was a pleasure to be a student. I already know that I’ll be back at some point for further training. I love your teaching and think your non-judgemental approach is awesome.
