What's included in the course and is it for you?
In this video, Kathryn talks about the course in more detail:

What’s covered in the Diploma course?
You will learn the fundamentals of Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) and will be able to give a range of different treatments lasting between 1 hour and 2 hours, as well as “taster” sessions. This includes Thai yoga massage in all four positions (supine, prone, side-lying and seated), and working the Sen (energy) lines. Classes are kept small to ensure close supervision (maximum student:teacher ratio of 6:1).

Course Overview
Thai yoga massage is a very different form of bodywork. It takes time and a lot of practice to learn the many different moves and approaches that are required to give a good Thai yoga massage. The structure of this Thai yoga massage course is designed to nurture and develop our students into becoming excellent practitioners. The whole routine is split into sections that can be learnt and developed through home practice. The importance of regular practice between teaching blocks cannot be overestimated and is an integral part of the course.

Every Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) taught session includes two demonstrations of the sequence; each student gets many opportunities to receive a sequence from the tutor throughout the course. The sequence is then demonstrated in small, “bite-size” segments which the students practise on each other under close supervision. In addition to classroom sessions, students will receive an in-depth manual with colour photos as well as life-time access to the full video-training course.

Course structure
The course lasts 7 days over roughly 4 months and includes an assessment day and a business training day designed for massage therapists. This is an intensive course and is supported by videos to aid home-study.

After each training session, students will be expected to build their hands-on experience of TYM with logged case-studies. There are a total of 80 teacher/student contact hours. In addition there are 125 hours of home-study including case-studies. The final assessment will be an observed massage treatment once all home-study has been completed.
Thank you so much for teaching me this fabulous modality, I know that everyone will find this amazing. I think you have an awesome teaching style and it really was a pleasure to be a student. I already know that I’ll be back at some point for further training. I love your teaching and think your non-judgemental approach is awesome.

Who can study Thai Yoga Massage?
We typically see three different types of student who come and learn Thai Yoga Massage at Central School...

Existing massage therapists
We often teach existing massage therapists who may have only ever worked on the couch, having specialised up to now in Swedish massage, sports massage or similar. If this is you, you may want to mix up your practice a little. There is no need for you to do the online anatomy course. TYM not only helps you to offer a wider range of services to your clients – and attract new clients – but also to extend your working day without damaging your body because you’re using your body in a different way.

Yoga teachers
Yoga teachers are often very interested in developing new skills to complement their existing yoga teaching practice. If this is you, you already have the ability to move gracefully around the mat on the floor, which makes learning TYM somewhat easier for you. And because Thai Yoga Massage has the “yoga” in its name, it’s easier for your students to understand that it’s a complementary practice to what you’re already doing.

Newcomers to massage
We have a few people who are completely new to any form of body work or movement. Perhaps you have been keen yoga practitioners or Pilates students, or just someone with a broader interest in health and fitness. You will be interested in helping others but also in looking after yourself with a form of bodywork which is also kind to your own body.
