Massage therapists: do your hands hurt from too much massage? Why not try something new…

Kathryn Ellis

Is it possible to massage without hurting your hands?

Of course I’m going to say yes!

How to avoid injuries as a massage therapist

There are lots of things you can do to minimise injury to your hands and wrists:

For example, you could learn better techniques and use your elbows and forearms in addition to hands, thumbs and fingers. Or you could learn to use your body-weight to apply pressure rather than your physical strength.

However, what if you could minimise the risk of wrist-pain altogether by using your feet to massage instead?

Maybe not all the time (although it’s certainly possible to give a whole massage using just your feet), but within your massage when you want to add in a deeper, broader, slower pressure.

Take your treatment to the floor and see how easy it is.

An easier way to give a deep tissue massage?

Find out how you can give a deep tissue massage more easily - even if your client is larger and relatively inflexible.

Learn how a range of techniques can allow you to massage someone for up to two hours, but feel great at the end of the treatment rather than exhausted and achy.

Learn how you can work with gravity, rather than against it; how you can use your whole body-weight rather than just the strength of your arms and shoulders.

Find out how to massage without hurting your hands

I’ve put together a mini-series of three videos that introduces you to a few, short sequences where you can give it a go. Find a willing friend who’s happy for you to experiment on them… Better still, find someone who’d be willing to have a go on you in return.

Let me take you step-by-step through the techniques and you can find out how easy it is to use your feet to give your hands a much-needed rest.
