“I first came across Thai yoga massage in 2004 when I watched a demonstration at the end of my yoga class. I was completely captivated by the graceful, dance-like quality of both giver and receiver, the way each movement flowed into another.
Thai massage is unlike any other kind of massage, combining stretching, energy work, deep tissue techniques and relaxation into one incredibly powerful whole-body treatment. This is what we share with our students at the Central School. We approach the various parts of the syllabus in an integrated way – I believe that students should learn how the practice affects the body on a physical as well as an energetic level.
We also want to teach people how to become successful practitioners – not only skilled in Thai massage techniques, but also how to set themselves up in business, how to promote themselves to potential clients etc.”
Kathryn’s business skills come from a ten-year career working in advertising in London, both for ITV and for two of the country’s leading advertising agencies. In addition to her advertising career, she helped her husband run a research company for almost 10 years before setting up her own massage business in 2007 and the Central School of Massage in 2010.
Kathryn is a trained musician, who sings in a number of small ensembles, and is married with two children. She has practised yoga for 25 years and has trained as a yoga teacher with Mark Freeth and in yin yoga with Sarah Lo.
